Tasked with creating an educational space to promote learning for more than 200 students, our work was initiated on behalf of the parents who aimed to build a new space without the help of any outside funding. From the design to construction, this project was particularly meaningful and personal for us, and in contrast to big budget project, presented unique challenges and tremendous rewards given the long-lasting utility and the students for whom it was build.
We have designed a school that not only satisfies the principles of the Waldorf Education, which promotes imaginative learning, but does so within the parameters of small spaces. Thus, there were challenges to ensure that there was sufficient space for each student to engage in self-expression. In this process, we designed a well-connected school in the mold of a small town, actively promoting movement where the classroom space, garden courtyard terraces an event hall library will flow within the schoolyard for its students.
