Noodle Alien
This project was commissioned by the soda art museum in Korea.
The museum is focused on children. Because of this, the installation also needed to be safe for children and easy to play with. From the hanging layout, children were able to freely climb about the installation. It was also flexible enough to be able to reformed and reshaped by children.
The theme of the project was artificial nature - and was installed outside of the forbidden architectural site.
Employing this theme, we developed the idea of finishing an architectural work at a forbidden site based on weaving patterns found in nature to efficiently to make space with soft and easily obtainable materials.
Using these materials, we created a technique to quickly and simply build a shelter. Through this weaving technique, the structure connected five elements built from 300m of styro-form tubes originally used as insulation material.
In selecting these materials, we studied the inherent composition of materials and invented a certain logic to weave these composites in a specific structure and space.
Ultimately, this technique will be a fast way to build an emergency dwelling shelter in the event of any natural disaster, war, or other dangerous calamity.
